Description

Horses have been an integral part of the River Valley experience, since the beginning. The family have always had horses, with Nicola and Janey being particularly passionate about them. It was an extension of this passion that lead to the creation of River Valley Stables. Located just 3 km from River Valley Lodge,Taihape, New Zealand, the Stables has developed as a niche provider of hill country horse treks and trail rides, exploring the countryside of the northern Rangitikei District.

It can be quite daunting, and a lot of hard work, launching a completely new ride, but totally worth it when you get such amazing feedback like this from the riders.

Thanks so much Helen (and all of our first season 8 day River Valley riders!), as always it was a pleasure to take you riding.

Check out Helen's full review below, and more great feedback from our other riders on the Globetrotting website...The first-ever season of The River Valley Ride in New Zealand saw 24 intrepid globetrotters complete this immersive eight-day ride. Among them was Helen Down, a kiwi with a true passion for exploring her country on horseback. Her feedback filled us with such pride - both for our ride and for our community of globetrotters, who never cease to amaze us with their adventurous, joyous spirit.
'While I had been waiting for this ride for almost a year and had huge expectations, it was beyond anything that I could have imagined. Calling it a holiday goes nowhere near to describing these eight days. It was a real adventure – exhilarating, calming, peaceful, exciting, challenging, beautiful and an experience I will always treasure.'
We've shared Helen's entire feedback form on the blog, so if you're keen for some Globetrotting inspiration, take a look here: www.globetrotting.com.au/trip-preparation/feedback-on-the-river-valley-ride/

So awesome. A unique and special experience. Beautifully cared for horses and spectacular scenery with fabulous hospitality and experienced guides.

A huge effort Nicola to get this riding trek going...well done!

Well done. What an effort!

Looking forward to doing it sometime... on Dakota:)

Pukeokahu - Hill of the Hawk. An iconic feature on our landscape that we ride over, up and down on our High Country Enchantment and Lodge to Lodge trips. There are many different trails we can take. Our trekking horses either grew up here or came later to live on this hill country. They are bare foot and accomplished at taking you riding over this country. As you would expect the view from the top is amazing :)

This iconic feature is significantly imposed upon our landscape, and defines the area we live in, Pukeokahu. It's an amazing hill to explore with access to the top and down again over many different trails. This one in particular is a favourite, leading down to the majestic shell rock faces that give the hill it's unique character. It's steep and when the ground is wet the horses do better negotiating it on their own. We ride this trail when weather permits on our High Country Enchantment and Lodge to Lodge trips. ... Is it really necessary to make the horses to do that....they weren’t keen. This is about human enjoyment and not the horse’s sadly. Watched this a second time and it really is wrong!

So confident and clever! Never seen horses sliding like that!

Good ponies!!!! You have such well trained horses!

You have such trusting horses Im glad they all went straight.

How ridiculous...against all instinct to do that, tacked up, unnecessarily, and against their natural will. Hope you have a brilliant equine chiropractor. Shit actually not even sure why this is on my FB...

I enjoyed watching how each horse had it's own style of negotiating the track. Awesome 😍

Such great ponies! What kind of saddle bags do you use?

Clever ponies πŸ€—

Awesome πŸ‘

Nicola Phillips Stephanie Winkler Denise Burdan 😳😳

Why would anyone send their horses down a track like that.

Wow awsome I'm glad our ponies didn't had to do this Eileen Menzies Trish Bellringer Philly Mullin Pete Dryden Darelle Martin
