Pictured is our BRAND NEW #8 truck at Auckland Airport picking up some new arrivals from Hong Kong. ✈️

After their racing careers are over, Hong Kong racehorses are retrained to have a meaningful second career in the equestrian world. Roughly 400-450 horses leave Hong Kong racing every year. The owners pay a subsidy when they import a horse to Hong Kong - the subsidy is currently around HK$80,000 ($15,500NZD), and on retirement, owners have two choices, they can either export their horses back to NZ, in which case the subsidy is returned to them to cover the export costs or they can donate them to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, in which case the subsidy is used to support the retraining program.

The horses who are donated to the Hong Kong Jockey Club are moved to the Club’s Beas River facility where the horses are assessed by a vet for physical and temperamental suitability. After retraining there are a variety of options available for these horses, such as the lead horse team, livery, the riding school, stable lead, apprentice jockey school, competition pool or overseas export.

Those horses who don’t cope well in the Hong Kong environment are often exported back to NZ, where people such as Gina Schick (EventStars Ltd) take them on. Gina’s talent for rehoming off the track thoroughbreds was recognised by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and she now has an annual contract to re-home a number of horses from their racing system. 👏🏻

No one ever wishes or intends to be in an accident, let alone whilst towing our floats. Safety however is our primary concern. We viewed the float after this unfortunate accident, relieved that both horse and driver were safe. Our standard manufacturing practice of using H4 50mm timber and one piece, hot dipped galvanised NZ steel frame, made sure that whilst the float was damaged, it kept the horse safe. #lovemyfieldline ... I had the same thing happen to me after being crashed into with two horses on on the open road. While the axels departed the trailer fared well and both horses were safe and unharmed! Can definitely recommend the engineering of these floats!

I saw this in the workshop when I was there, so impressed with how the horse was kept relatively safe. Great floats!!

I thought you were just making a new hover model. Glad everyone was safe

This would not have been a safe outcome of any other brand of float! Only fieldline would be able to keep everyone safe in this situation

We are very proud to sponsor the Stablehand Of The Year at the LOVERACING.NZ horse of the year awards 2020! 🏆

Make sure you get your nominations in to reward those stablehands who always go the extra mile. 👏🏻CALLING FOR NOMINATIONS | Seeking New Zealand’s most dedicated and devoted stablehands as we call for nominations for the 2020 New Zealand Stablehand of the Year.

Sponsored by Majestic Horse Floats LP, this keenly sought-after accolade will be a feature of the 2020 New Zealand Thoroughbred Horse of the Year Awards.

The Stablehand of the Year award is designed to reward those staff members who go the extra mile and always take pride in their work. This award recognises that EVERY horse is special – especially to the person who looks after them. We are looking for the team players who do the hard work in the background to keep things ticking over smoothly, they might not even have a regular roster of horses in their care. This is their time to shine, so show your appreciation and acknowledge their contribution by nominating them today!

To be eligible for the award, the stablehand/strapper will need to hold a current NZTR licence and have been employed by the nominating trainer in a full-time capacity for a minimum of 12 months.

Trainers should follow the link below and send a completed nomination form, including details of a referee, to Mary.Burgess@nztr.co.nz by 5pm, Friday 4th September.

NOMINATION FORM: buff.ly/31cLiv9

Finalists will be chosen from the Northern, Central and Southern regions, with each receiving $2500. The finalists will also receive flights, accommodation and tickets to the Awards evening, with the eventual winner receiving an additional $2500.
