The saying goes 'no foot, no horse'. With this in mind, CFP-qualified farrier Bruce Barton and his highly skilled team aim to provide a professional, punctual farrier service to clients, focusing on service and attention to detail, in order to maximise their horses' comfort, soundness and performance.

Barton Blacksmith Services has 2 main branches with highly reputable teams that service the Otago and Auckland regions.

Preparing for your appointment:

In order for myself & the rest of the team to continue offering the best prompt & professional service we can, we need your help with the following:

We ask that all horses are prepared & ready to go at your appointed time & place with clean dry picked out feet. We do our best work on a flat hard clean surface.
If we are 15 minutes or less late to your appointment, don’t panic – we will be on our way. We’ll call you to advise if we are going to be more than 15 minutes late so please keep your mobile handy. Even with the best planning and effort to be punctual, horses are fantastic creatures at making you late for a multitude of reasons - as I'm sure you’re all well aware.
As always, our invoices are due for payment within 7 days. Late payments may mean a delay in getting your next appointment. If you wish to make other other payment arrangements, please contact me.
Shelter - unfortunately we can't shoe horses in the rain. If possible, under cover shelter is most appreciated in winter to keep us dry and in summer, free of sunburn and sun stroke.
Fire risk - as we enter another dry summer, we need to be very careful of hot shoeing on tinder dry grass areas. If you can please provide us with a safe work surface (ideally concrete, swept clear of hay) that would be most appreciated (this is particularly import for Central Otago clients). The onus is on you to provide us with a safe environment to work - nobody wants a repeat of last year’s Nelson fires.
